How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancellation goes through the App Store, not through Detox. This is how Apple handles every iOS subscription: Apple manages the billing, so cancellations happen in Apple's subscription settings, not inside the app you're cancelling. Detox can't cancel your subscription for you.
How to cancel
- Open the App Store app on your iPhone.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Detox.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
That's it. Your subscription is now set to not renew.
What happens after you cancel
You keep full access to Detox until the end of your current paid period. If you're paying monthly and you cancel a week into the month, you have three more weeks of access. After that, Detox's full experience stops working: your active blocks are released, blocking stops, and you'll see a re-engagement paywall the next time you open the app.
Nothing happens to your configuration. Your Monitored Apps list, Scheduled Blocks, and Auto Block settings stay saved on the device. If you ever subscribe again, everything is still there. You may need to open the troubleshooting guide at Settings → Problems with blocks? → Apps not blocked? and tap Reset your blocks once after resubscribing, to make sure iOS reapplies your configurations cleanly.
Cancel before you're charged (free trial)
If you started a free trial and want to cancel before the trial converts to a paid subscription, the steps are the same:
- Open the App Store app on your iPhone.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Detox.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
Do this before the trial end date shown on that page. Apple sends a reminder email 24 hours before the trial ends; if you haven't seen it, check your spam folder. Apple sends this reminder to the email tied to your Apple Account, not the email you gave Detox during onboarding, so if you use a different inbox for Apple, check there too. As long as you cancel before the end date, you're not charged.
Deleting the app doesn't cancel
Removing Detox from your home screen does not cancel your subscription. iOS subscriptions are independent from the app being installed; the only way to actually cancel is through the App Store path above. If you delete Detox without cancelling, you keep getting charged at each renewal date.
